A robbery involving ₹11 lakh in cash was uncovered at an NRI’s locked house in Chandigarh’s Sector 9-B. The theft came to light on September 3 when Prem Sharma, the caretaker, and Shamu, the house’s driver, discovered broken cupboard locks in the dressing room on the first floor.

Prem Sharma, 60, who has been managing the property since 1990, reported the theft to the police. According to Sharma, Shamu—who resides in the servant quarters on the premises—alerted him about the damaged locks. Shamu immediately contacted the homeowner, Udebir Singh Kang, who currently resides in the USA, via WhatsApp.

Investigators confirmed that the unknown thief or thieves broke into the locked cupboard to steal the money

Kang informed Sharma that ₹11 lakh in cash was stored in the cupboard and instructed him to verify if it was still there. Upon inspection, Sharma confirmed that the cash was missing. Kang then reported the crime to the local police through an e-mail, prompting Sharma to file an official complaint.
