This election cycle, Democratic Vice Presidential candidate Kamala Harris, who is of Indian descent, competes against the incumbent Republican ticket
The Foundation for India and Indian Diaspora Studies (FIIDS) has recently launched the “Indo-American Votes Matter” campaign, aimed at increasing Indian-American participation in the upcoming U.S. presidential election. With a goal to register one million voters, the campaign seeks to ensure the community’s voice is recognized by both major political parties.
Both parties are urged to consider the priorities of Indian-Americans to win their support, as their votes could play a pivotal role in determining the outcome of the election
Indian-Americans, although representing just 1.5% of the U.S. population, reside in key swing states where their votes could be decisive. States like Florida, Georgia, Arizona, Virginia, New Jersey, Texas, and California hold large concentrations of the Indian-American population, making their turnout crucial in the upcoming election.
In addition to voter registration, the campaign is conducting a survey to gauge Indian-American perspectives on a range of issues. With a community of 4.5 million members, FIIDS aims to provide a platform for their concerns and preferences, encouraging political engagement.
