Indian American teenager Tanishka Dhariwal has successfully rallied support from a diverse group of friends to raise over USD 10,000 for the PM CARES Fund, dedicated to aiding the victims of the tragic train accident that occurred in Odisha earlier this year. In a heartwarming display of unity and a testament to the global community spirit, Tanishka handed over the raised funds to the Consul General of India in New York, Randhir Jaiswal.

Tanishka’s resourcefulness and determination were evident as she initiated a GoFundMe campaign and reached out to educational institutions, districts, friends, and family to garner support for this noble cause. Expressing her intentions, Tanishka stated, “I was able to start a GoFundMe page. I reached out to schools, districts, friends, and family and raised over USD 10,000. Hopefully, this money will be able to go and help the people who have been affected deeply by this. I believe a little goes a long way and hopefully this is a good start to it,” in an interview with ANI.

The donation ceremony, which took place recently, was graced by the presence of prominent individuals including Haridas Kotewala, a patron member of RANA (Rajasthan Association of North America); Ashok Sancheti, an advisor at Jaipur Foot USA; Ravi Jargarh, the joint secretary of RANA; and Chandra Sukhwal, a senior member of RANA. Tanishka Dhariwal, accompanied by her parents Nitin and Sapna Dhariwal, was also in attendance.

In light of Tanishka’s inspiring efforts, Prem Bhandari, the president of RANA and founding chair of Jaipur Foot USA, highlighted the profound impact of her gesture, emphasizing that it’s not merely about the monetary amount raised, but the sentiment and compassion behind it. Bhandari underscored the enduring ties that continue to bind US-born Indian youth to their homeland, particularly in the context of India’s ongoing pursuit of self-reliance under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi.
