In a landmark move, the United Kingdom and Mauritius have reached an agreement to return sovereignty over the Chagos Archipelago, including Diego Garcia, to Mauritius, an MEA Press release said.

This significant accord concludes the decolonization of Mauritius, marking the end of a long-standing territorial dispute that spanned decades.

The resolution, which came after two years of negotiations, reflects the principles of international law and demonstrates the commitment of both nations to upholding fairness and justice.

The resolution of the Chagos dispute represents not only a victory for Mauritius but also a positive development for the region

India has welcomed this agreement, consistently supporting Mauritius’s claim to the Chagos Archipelago as part of its broader stance on decolonization and the protection of national sovereignty.

India’s longstanding partnership with Mauritius, coupled with its principled support for territorial integrity, has played a vital role in this process.
