October 10th is World Mental Health Day and this year’s the theme is mental wellness at workplace.
The World Health Organization stated that worldwide 3.5 billion people are working. By promoting efforts to build healthier, safer and more resilient workplaces for all, WHO is seeking to achieve 1 billion more people enjoying healthier working life, and 1 billion more people being better protected at work from health emergencies.
Mental health is the least acknowledged and spoken about topic, even if it is spoken, it is along the lines of acknowledging and normalizing it, says Dr Ranjit Panicker, Coimbatore Ayurveda in Ruwi, Oman.
Anxiety, depression, gastrointestinal diseases, headache and migraine, hypertension, obesity, hormonal imbalances, metabolic disorders.
According to Dr Ranjit, Ayurvedic management for these conditions would involve diet, lifestyle modification, herbal medication such as aswaganda, brahmi etc.
“But Ayurveda perceives the mind and body as interconnected entities, where the state of one profoundly influences the other,” he noted.
Ayurvedic management for mental health at work focuses on achieving balance in body and mind. By addressing stress, anxiety and emotional well-being.
So can work pressure have drastic impacts?
“Work related mental health issues can manifest in various diseases, when stress, improper lifestyle and an unbalanced mind and body connection persist. Moreover, Ayurvedic references explains about the direct link between our gut and the mental health. Your mental health is an expression of your gut,” explained Dr Ranjit.
