Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Vientiane, Lao People’s Democratic Republic (PDR), from October 10-11, 2024, at the invitation of H.E. Mr. Sonexay Siphandone, Prime Minister of Lao PDR. This visit underscores India’s deepening ties with Southeast Asia and its pivotal role in the region.
During his visit, Prime Minister Modi will participate in two significant events: the 21st ASEAN-India Summit and the 19th East Asia Summit. Lao PDR, as the current Chair of ASEAN, is hosting these important forums.
The East Asia Summit, a premier forum led by leaders, will offer a platform for discussing regional strategic trust and cooperation. Leaders from East Asia Summit (EAS) Participating Countries, including India, will exchange views on pressing regional issues, fostering an environment of dialogue and cooperation
The ASEAN-India Summit will focus on reviewing the progress of India’s Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with ASEAN, a key element of India’s Act East Policy. The discussions will also help shape the future of cooperation between India and ASEAN nations. This year marks a decade since the launch of India’s Act East Policy, which has played a crucial role in strengthening India’s relations with ASEAN and its broader Indo-Pacific vision.
