A major step by CM Revanth Reddy to strengthen welfare policies for overseas workers, especially those in the Gulf
Hyderabad: In a bid to safeguard the interests of its migrant workforce, especially those employed in Gulf countries, the Telangana government has officially announced the formation of a Non-Resident Indian (NRI) Advisory Committee. This initiative is part of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s comprehensive plan to draft a dedicated NRI policy and improve the welfare network for overseas workers from the state, reported siasat.com.
The announcement comes after CM Reddy’s meeting on April 16, 2024, with representatives of Gulf migrant associations at Taj Deccan, Hyderabad. During the meeting, he assured attendees that his government would prioritize the welfare of the migrant workforce, particularly the economically weaker sections employed abroad.
Acting on the chief minister’s directive, Telangana chief secretary Santhi Kumari issued an official government order for the committee’s formation on April 10, 2025. The committee will serve for two years and is assigned the task of identifying policy gaps, studying successful welfare models from other states like Kerala, Punjab, and Andhra Pradesh, and conducting field visits to Gulf countries to gather on-ground insights.
The newly formed committee will review welfare schemes, suggest policy reforms, and help draft the Telangana Gulf and Overseas Workers Welfare Board framework

- Vice Chairman: Mandha Bheem Reddy
