AirAsia India will fly abroad soon

…And when that happens, Tata Sons will have four airlines with permits for overseas operations. Today, only Vistara operates on international routes

Bengaluru-headquartered AirAsia India is a joint venture between Tata Sons and AirAsia Investment Ltd. AirAsia India is on the verge of receiving the permission to fly international. And when that happens, Tata Sons will have four airlines with permits for overseas operations. Today, only Vistara operates on international routes.

The development is an important one since Tata Sons will acquire Air India and Air India Express after conclusion of the share purchase agreement (SPA) with the Centre. Both Air India and Air India Express operate international flights.

Air Asia started flying on June 12, 2014, and flies over 240 direct and connecting routes across India with a fleet of 28 aircraft

AirAsia India, in which Tatas own a majority stake, has received the security clearance to operate international flights. However, many procedures with the country’s Civil Aviation Ministry and the regulator still remain to be fulfilled before the airline starts international operations. These steps could take 2-6 months to fulfil. And even after obtaining all the permissions, the airline might not fly abroad in the near future, due to the ongoing pandemic.

It started flying on June 12, 2014, and flies over 240 direct and connecting routes across India with a fleet of 28 aircraft.
