Venkatesan impersonated a family member of the NRIs and forged documents to make it appear that the land had been transferred to legal heirs
Avadi City Police arrested a 42-year-old man on Saturday for forging documents to seize properties owned by NRIs, dtnext.in reported.
The accused, D. Venkatesan from Palavakkam, conspired with Sivaprakasam, who was entrusted with maintaining these properties on behalf of the original owners.
Additionally, he arranged for individuals to pose as these heirs to complete the fraudulent transaction. While Venkatesan has been apprehended, Sivaprakasam remains at large
Police revealed that the two took advantage of the fact that the rightful owners, Vasuki and Senthamarai, both residing in the U.S., were unlikely to return to claim their properties. Vasuki owns a 6,000 sq. ft. plot in Maxworth Nagar, Kolapakkam, while Senthamarai owns 2,200 sq. ft. in the same area. The properties, valued at over ₹2 crore, were supposed to be looked after by Sivaprakasam.
