A local non-profit organisation, BRS NRI (Bharat Rashtra Samithi Non-Resident Indian) South Africa is currently providing essential assistance to the disadvantaged Midrand communities like never before.
The much-needed support by the organisation includes providing food, blankets, and other essentials for those experiencing hardship this winter.
In an effort to provide extra warmth for Midrand residents this cold season, 125 warm blankets were handed over to residents in ward 132, and to the Midrand police during the organisation’s winter blanket drive.
The organisation’s president Nagaraju Gurrala said by hosting these campaigns, they hope to make a positive impact on the lives of people in need and to contribute to the betterment of the community.
“These donations of winter blankets are essential for the homeless in the area. Homelessness can be a significant issue during the cold winter months. Providing blankets can help keep people warm and prevent cold-related illnesses,” said Gurrala.

“The fact that the blankets were distributed through the police and under bridges indicates that the donations reached those who needed them most.” Among the key leaders involved in this campaign was ward 132 councillor Annette Deppe, who together with other residents distributed 17 of the 125 blankets to locals on Workers’ Day.
“It is getting very cold and the workers on night duty would also like some warmth at night. Which is why these blankets were also donated to some workers who work the nightshift,” said Deppe.
“The kindness that people show when they donate is something I always appreciate. It shows me there are still good people in this world who care.”
The Station Commander of Midrand Police Brigadier Molefi David Tsotsotso was pleased with the donations and encourages the organisations to keep doing good deeds for the communities.
