Dense fog prevails for third day in row, Bathinda in Punjab again reporting zero visibility
New Delhi: For the third day in a row, a layer of very dense to dense fog engulfed North India with Bathinda in Punjab again reporting zero visibility at 0530 on Wednesday, December 18, a report in The Tribune, Chandigarh, says
Punjab, Northwest Rajasthan to East Uttar Pradesh across Haryana remained blanketed, affecting road and rail traffic.
INSAT 3D RAPID Satellite imagery showed continuation of a dense fog layer from Punjab and Northwest Rajasthan to East UP across Haryana.
The IMD said improvement in fog situation and visibility is expected around December 22 night and December 23 morning.
Dense to very dense fog conditions will continue over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi, Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh during next two days and decrease in intensity thereafter, it said on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, cold wave conditions are likely to continue in isolated pockets over Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and north Rajasthan for the next three-four day due to dry north/north westerly winds from Himalayas, it added.

The biting cold and dense fog has caused several accidents, leaving three people dead and 40 injured and prompting affected states to take steps like suspending night operations of buses, reducing speed limit in some areas and changing school timing.
Flight operations, however, were unaffected in the national capital, an airport official said.
On Tuesday, 11 trains were reported running late by one to five hours. an IMD official said. The primary weather station in Delhi, recorded a minimum temperature of 6.3 degrees Celsius, two notches below normal.
The maximum temperature is likely to settle around 22 degrees Celsius. The minimum and maximum temperatures are likely to drop to five degrees Celsius and 20 degrees Celsius in the next few days in Delhi.
Taking note of the dense fog and accidents due to it, the Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday evening stopped plying of state roadways buses at night.
