The university breaks its own record with a record number of applications this year
This year the University of Hyderabad (UoH) had received as many as 1,512 applications from foreign students for admission for its various courses, which is a record in itself.
University authorities say this year’s numbers are the highest compared to figures of the last five or six years.
Director of International Studies at UoH, N. Shiva Kumar, said that after processing the applications, 129 foreign students were granted admission to various academic courses, mostly for PhD and Masters programmes.
The director said the UoH has a designated hostel for international students with 50 single occupancy rooms.

The director said the bulk of the applications usually come through the government of India agencies like the ICCR (India Council for Cultural Relations), Study in India, from SAARC countries or privately funded students.
Foreign students at the UoH are usually from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Nepal, and Sri Lanka (Asia), Botswana, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Malawi, Mauritius, Nigeria, Uganda, South Africa, Sudan, Swaziland and Tanzania (African continent) and Iraq, Jordan, Syria and Yemen (West Asia).
Two new hostels for international students are under construction, he added.
