India and Kenya unite in vibrant Holi celebration

In a remarkable fusion of cultures, India and Kenya joined hands to celebrate Holi in a groundbreaking event titled Tales to Tell Stories, orchestrated by Ananya Pal Production and United Asian Network in Nairobi. The festivities commenced with the harmonious rendition of both nations’ national anthems, setting the tone for an evening of cultural exchange, Times of India reported.

High Commissioner of India in Kenya, Namgya Khampa, conveyed a heartfelt message via video, underscoring the significance of the occasion. Dr. Bimal Kantaria, Chairman of UAN, delivered an illuminating speech touching upon the historical, economic, and social dimensions of the Indian diaspora’s migration to Kenya during the colonial era.

The event featured the screening of “The Adventures of Kohli,” an animated film by Ananya Pal and Nikita Bhatti, delving into a captivating true story. Filmmaker Salim Amin contributed a poignant documentary, honoring the legacy of his father, renowned photographer Mohamed Amin, through captivating interviews and a compelling display of archival photographs.

The evening reached its crescendo with a mesmerizing musical drama directed by Ananya Pal, showcasing the cultural tapestry of the Indian diaspora through live performances of traditional dances including garba, bhangra, and southern folk dances. Choreographed by Guru Anusiva and Divya Patel, the performance exemplified the rich heritage and cultural integration of the Indian community in Kenya.

Reflecting on the event, Ananya expressed her delight, describing it as a nostalgic journey through Kenya’s colonial past intertwined with vibrant musical performances that bridge diverse Indian folk music traditions. “It feels great to host such an evening on the eve of the festival of colors, Holi,” she remarked, encapsulating the spirit of unity and celebration that permeated the occasion.
