India’s recent initiative to offer 100,000 free visas to foreign tourists under the “#ChaloIndia” campaign is a strategic move to bolster its tourism sector.
Announced by Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, the Minister of Tourism, this follows a similar successful measure from 2021-2022 when 500,000 free visas were issued to encourage travel amidst the recovery from pandemic-induced restrictions.
By removing visa fees, the initiative is designed to attract more international visitors, which in turn is expected to revitalize businesses linked to the tourism sector, such as hotels, airlines, and local artisans
This campaign not only aims to revive tourism but also invites the Indian diaspora to actively promote the country’s rich cultural heritage, aligning with the Prime Minister’s call for diaspora engagement in boosting India’s global appeal.
