India and New Zealand have come together to enhance their collaboration in the realm of civil aviation, as evidenced by the recent signing of a pivotal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on August 29.
This landmark agreement encapsulates various aspects of cooperation within the civil aviation sector, encompassing crucial facets such as the establishment of new flight routes, the facilitation of code share services, the delineation of traffic rights, and the allocation of capacity entitlement.
Underlining the significance of this MoU, Jyotiraditya M Scindia, the esteemed Indian Minister for Civil Aviation, emphasized the pivotal nature of the occasion, remarking, “Today signifies a momentous juncture in the arena of Civil Aviation air services between India and New Zealand.
The culmination of these deliberations has led to the recent signing of the MoU, which is poised to infuse fresh impetus into the bilateral relations within the civil aviation sphere for both India and New Zealand
We have, through the signing of this MoU, embarked upon a journey that promises to elevate air transport connectivity between our two nations. The implementation of an open sky policy is now firmly in place, punctuated by an expanded network of designated points of calls and intermediate points.”
It’s important to note that an Air Services Agreement was previously entered into by New Zealand and India in Auckland on May 1, 2016. With the passage of time, the two governments have engaged in a comprehensive review of the preexisting arrangements pertaining to air services connecting the two nations.
