The adventure tourism strategy paper seeks to constitute a National Board for the promotion of adventure tourism and the appointment of a Nodal Agency to help and support the National Board in implementation of the mission and vision to make India a preferred adventure tourism destination
India’s Ministry of Tourism has chalked out plans about a national strategy paper on adventure tourism with the industry stakeholders. It will be akin to the Ministry’s national strategy documents on medical tourism, MICE tourism, etc., reported ETTravelWorld. The adventure tourism strategy paper seeks to constitute a National Board for the promotion of adventure tourism and the appointment of a Nodal Agency to help and support the National Board in implementation of the mission and vision to make India a preferred adventure tourism destination.
The proposed National Board on Adventure Tourism will be chaired by the Secretary – Tourism, Government of India, and will have representatives of the key Ministries of the government, representatives of the key states which have a high focus and stake in adventure tourism, private industry representatives, NGOs, and experts. At the state level, the national strategy paper has sought the creation of steering committees under chief secretaries.
According to the strategy paper, the National Board will guide the operationalisation and implementation of strategic initiatives to strengthen the infrastructure for the development of adventure tourism in the country. For this, the National Board will be helped by a national nodal agency. The Ministry of Tourism, Government of India will provide budgetary support to this agency.
To provide a thrust to adventure tourism in international promotions of Incredible India, the Ministry of Tourism has proposed a ‘Sub brand’ for Incredible India dedicated to adventure tourism
The strategy paper also mentions the creation of an integrated National Rescue and Communication Grid for coordinating the communication among various stakeholders in case of accidents. The communication grid will be set up at the state and regional levels as well.
To provide a thrust to adventure tourism in international promotions of Incredible India, the Ministry of Tourism has proposed a ‘Sub brand’ for Incredible India dedicated to adventure tourism. “We had a few rounds of meetings on the National Adventure Tourism Board with the Ministry of Tourism. In the light of the rising accidents and other issues, this is, of course, a step in the right direction,” a key official was quoted by ETTravelWorld.
