Two distinguished Indian American scientists, Ashok Gadgil and Subra Suresh, were recently recognized and celebrated for their remarkable contributions to the fields of science and technology, ANI reported.

The prestigious awards, the National Medal of Technology and Innovation and the National Medal of Science, were presented to them by US President Joe Biden in a ceremony held at the White House.

At this special event, President Biden also paid tribute to a select group of American scientists, technologists, and innovators who have made significant strides in their respective domains. Their achievements have had a profound impact, with their discoveries facilitating life-saving medical treatments, aiding in the fight against the opioid epidemic, enhancing food security, advancing accessibility, and much more.

In a statement released by the White House, it was stated, “Today, President Biden is awarding the National Medal of Science and the National Medal of Technology and Innovation to a number of Americans who have made exemplary achievements in science, technology, and innovation to strengthen our nation’s well-being.” The National Medal of Science, regarded as the highest scientific honor in the nation, was established by the US Congress in 1959 and is administered by the US National Science Foundation.
