Industry status benefits to tourism sector could come from states

Reddy was replying to the debate in the parliament on tourism. He urged parliamentarians to use their influence in their respective states to convince the governments to formulate favourable policies for tourism growth

 The Union Tourism, Culture and DoNER Minister, G Kishan Reddy, asked states to extend industry status benefits to the tourism sector to help the service sector recover from the financial crisis of the two-year-long global pandemic. Reddy was replying to the debate in the parliament on tourism. He urged parliamentarians to use their influence in their respective states to convince the governments to formulate favourable policies for tourism growth, reported ETTravelWorld.

Reddy said that the Central government had extended all support to the tourism industry to recover from the Covid-19 stress. Highlighting the financial assistance scheme for approved tour operators and tour guides, the Minister said that the government had conducted a detailed study on the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the tourism economy in the country through different phases of the lockdown.

Reddy went on to point out that the country had issued around 1.58 lakh tourist visas between August 15, 2021, and March 7, 2022. This included 51,916 regular tourist visas and over 1.05 lakh e-Tourist Visas

The tourism economy in the country has declined 42.8 per cent in the first lockdown, 55.5 per cent in the second lockdown, and around 1.1 per cent in the third lockdown.

Reddy went on to point out that the country had issued around 1.58 lakh tourist visas between August 15, 2021, and March 7, 2022. This included 51,916 regular tourist visas and over 1.05 lakh e-Tourist Visas.
