Iran expresses readiness to intervene in Nimisha Priya’s case, a Kerala nurse on death row in Yemen for murder
A senior Iranian official stated on Thursday that Tehran is prepared to intervene in the case of Nimisha Priya, a nurse from Kerala sentenced to death in Yemen for the murder of a Yemeni national, reported timesofindia.indiatimes.com
Iran ready to support Nimisha Priya’s case due to humanitarian concerns
The Iranian official emphasized that Iran views the situation as a humanitarian issue and is willing to offer assistance. Nimisha has been incarcerated in Yemen since 2017, and her death sentence was upheld by the Yemeni president last month. India has been in touch with her family, offering support and exploring legal options.
Iran’s offer came just before another round of foreign office talks between Iran and India, where Tehran is expected to discuss the revival of trade relations, including the resumption of oil supplies to India
The official also raised concerns about the differing sanctions on Iran and Russia, questioning why India continues to import energy from Russia but not from Iran.
Additionally, the Iranian official commented on the conflict in Gaza, asserting that Israel’s military actions have only intensified the global focus on Palestine and reaffirming Iran’s support for an independent Palestinian state. The official also highlighted the need for stronger counter-terrorism cooperation with India, particularly in light of recent developments in Syria.
