Israel has emerged at the country with the most favourable view of India, the Israeli Foreign Ministry shared in a post on social media platform X. According to a list, 71% Israelis have positive views about India. In a ranking of countries with respect to their views about India, UK came in second (66%), followed by Kenya (64%) and Nigeria (60%), reported ET.

The ministry was quoting data by X handle World of Statistics. “Israel is the country which perceives India most favorably. We love our Indian friends.”

An Israeli business daily reported in January that the nation intended to hire some 70,000 foreign labourers from China, India, and other countries to expand its building industry, which has been at a standstill since Hamas militants attacked on October 7.

Countries that have been a favourite among Indian immigrants have ranked lower, with the United States barely making it to the top 10. 51% Americans think positively about Indians. In Canada and Germany, the percentage drops further to 47%.

Israel, a nation of around 9 million people, is significantly dependent on labour from outside its borders in industries including construction, agriculture, and caregiving. Following Israel’s battle with Hamas, tens of thousands of workers are flooding job centres around the nation, seeing opportunity in the severe labour crisis.

An Indian foreign ministry spokesperson last month told reporters that an agreement on labour mobility with Israel was signed before the conflict erupted last year. “The idea behind this agreement was to put in place an institutional mechanism to regulate migration and ensure rights of people who go there are protected,” said Randhir Jaiswal, the spokesperson. “Labour laws in Israel are very strict and robust…we are very conscious of our responsibility to provide safety to our people abroad,” he told reporters.
