20 Million increase in passenger capacity expected by year-end
Minister for Civil Aviation and Steel, Shri. Jyotiraditya Scindia, conducted a comprehensive review of the Navi Mumbai International Airport Project on Saturday, January 13th. The visit included an assessment of the project’s current status, operational readiness, and a detailed tour of the site. The meeting, attended by ministry officials, senior CIDCO and Adani Airport Holding Limited (AAHL) representatives, and the Maharashtra government, focused on multi-modal connectivity initiatives, encompassing rail, road, metro, and future waterway connections.
Minister Scindia emphasized the national significance of the project, stating, “This is the country’s project, not just Mumbai’s or Maharashtra’s. I am pleased to note that both physical and financial progress is on track. The airport will serve to connect Mumbai and Navi Mumbai seamlessly, with multimodal connectivity through rail, road, metro, and eventually waterways.”
Scheduled for completion by the year-end, the project is poised to transform the aviation landscape of the Mumbai Metropolitan region. In its inaugural year, the airport is expected to increase passenger capacity by 20 million annually, reaching 90 million passengers per annum upon the final phase’s completion. Key features of the project include:
India’s foremost true multi-modal aviation and transportation hub, integrating air, road, suburban rail, metro rail, APM, High-Speed Rail, and waterway connectivity, prioritizing Mass Public Transport.
The nation’s most efficient airport, boasting a passenger capacity of 90 million passengers per annum, with 256 Code C Eq. stands and over 2.6 million tonnes of cargo on a limited site area of 1160 hectares.
India’s largest planned General Aviation facility, featuring more than 67 General Aviation Aircraft Stands and a dedicated Heliport Operations area.
