The QR coded card would be of the size of an ATM card, that will also serve the purpose of an ID card
The Indian State of Kerala has developed an innovative idea to issue ‘smart’ ration cards to state subscribers.
The QR coded card would be of the size of an ATM card, which will also serve an ID card.
The card would have the contact numbers of the taluk supply officer (TSO) and ration inspector, as it would be the modification of the e-ration card.
The card would have information on both sides. The front side will show the photo, barcode and QR code of the owner, while the on backside carries there will be information regarding the holders’ monthly income, number of the ration stores and electricity connection status, LPG gas connection etc
With this, every ration shop would have e-pos (point of sale) machines; the information about the owner will be displayed on the screen when the QR code is scanned. After every purchase, the beneficiary will receive information on his/ her registered mobile phone.
From November 1 onwards, the first phase of the card’s distribution will start.
The card would have information on both sides. For example, the front side will show the owner’s photo, barcode and QR code, while the back side will have information regarding the holders’ monthly income, the number of the ration stores and electricity connection status, LPG gas connection, etc.
