Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar passes away at 92

After catching Covid-19 some 27 days ago, she was showing some signs of recovery but suddenly faced multi-organ failure on Monday night and breathed her last at 8:12 am (Sunday).

Heartbeat of India and legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar breathed her last on Sunday while recovering from post Covid-19 complications. She faced multiple organ failure leaving the entire nation in sorrow. She was 92.

Usha Mangeshkar, her sister, who was by her in the hospital, confirmed her death.

In an emotional tweet Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “I am anguished beyond words. The kind and caring Lata Didi has left us. She leaves a void in our nation that cannot be filled. The coming generations will remember her as a stalwart of Indian culture, whose melodious voice had an unparalleled ability to mesmerise people.”

“This is a sad day for music lovers and listeners. She has certainly created a void in the music world. I grew up listening and learning from her music,” said Dr Vandana Jyotirmayee, a passionate practitioner of Hindustani music.
