An unified portal platform will be developed by integrating the airline, airport and other service providers and the services of a third party certification/authentication agency
India’s Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA), according to a news report in ET, will launch an unified portal that will verify and authenticate Covid-19 testing and vaccine certificates of passengers arriving in Indian airports. This platform will be developed by integrating the airline, airport and other service providers and the services of a third party certification/authentication agency.
Usha Padhee, Joint Secretary, MoCA spoke about the portal at the National Tourism Investment Meet organised by FICCI in Delhi. The unified platform, she said, was necessary to bring back the confidence as well as reopening the borders for international passengers. Once the system was in place, the government would be able to boost the international capacities in a calibrated manner from the current 20 per cent to 60 per cent.
On the domestic front, connectivity to many unexplored destinations had been established in the last few years through the UDAN scheme and that was supporting domestic tourism in a big way
She also pointed out that in the absence of sustainable protocols in terms of testing and certification, reopening international borders would be a challenge. The only option was to enhance bilateral air bubble arrangement with countries which mutually accept protocols. India currently had air bubble agreements with 28 countries.
On the domestic front, connectivity to many unexplored destinations had been established in the last few years through the UDAN scheme and that was supporting domestic tourism in a big way. Padhee said that MoCA and the Tourism Ministry were working together to identify and connect important tourism destinations through a special UDAN scheme.
