The United States has implemented a stringent measure aimed at curbing fraud and preventing the misuse of the visa appointment system for Indian students. The new policy, set to take effect from November 27, mandates that all applicants for F, M, and J student visas must input their passport details accurately when creating a profile and scheduling their visa appointment.

In the wake of this policy change, individuals who have generated a profile or booked an appointment with an incorrect passport number will face significant consequences. The US Embassy in India has confirmed that such applicants will not be accommodated at the Visa Application Centers (VAC). Moreover, their appointments will be summarily canceled, and the visa fee paid will be forfeited.

Applicants are strongly advised to adhere to these new rules and guidelines to avoid disruptions to their visa application process

To rectify this situation, affected applicants must take immediate corrective action. They have the option to either establish a new profile with the accurate passport information or access an existing profile that contains the correct details in order to schedule a visa appointment. Importantly, if the previous receipt is linked to a profile with inaccurate passport information, obtaining a new visa fee receipt is a prerequisite.

For individuals who have recently renewed their passport or obtained a new one due to the loss or theft of the old passport, there is a provision. They can proceed with their appointment by presenting a photocopy or other evidence of the old passport number. This particular measure has been implemented to ensure the integrity of the visa application process and to enhance security measures against fraudulent activities. Applicants are strongly advised to adhere to these new rules and guidelines to avoid disruptions to their visa application process.
