Norwegian cyclist on world tour robbed of mobile, credit card in Ludhiana, local comes to help

Chandigarh: A 21-year-old Norwegian cyclist on world tour, Espen Lilleengen, resident of Jessheim in Norway, was reportedly robbed of mobile phone, credit card and driving licence on Monday evening while he was riding through Delhi road in Ludhiana,  a report  in The Tribune, Chandigarh, says.

Espen  was reportedly talking on his phone when some bike-borne miscreants snatched it from him  and fled s possession. He tried to chase the mobile thieves snatchers but they made a quick getaway. 

n addition to his Apple i-10  mobile phone, the Norwegian citizen, identified as Espen Lilleengen, also lost his credit card, driving licence and other documents to the snatchers.

 “My credit card was stolen. I only have ₹200 in my pocket. I have asked my parents to transfer some money so I can continue my journey,” said Lilleengen.

Madhurrendra Kumar Pandey a resident from the area, , came to Espen’s rescue and informed police about the incident. He has also provided accommodation to him till the police recover his belongings, as per reports.

Panday, who got an FIR filed on Espen’s behalf at the Moti Nagar police station said a distressed foreigner was roaming in front of his office. Upon being asked about reason of uneasiness, Espen narrated his ordeal to him.

Cops said they have formed different teams to trace the miscreants.

A college student from Norway,  Espen set  out on his  started world tour six months ago. He had already visited 23 countries so far. He plans to wind up his tour in next three months after reaching Vietnam.

The victim said the incident has not changed his image of India as he has met quite a few generous people during his time in the country. Notably, an Uttar Pradesh-based transporter, Madhurendra Kumar Pandey, had come to Lilleengen’s aide, helped him in lodging a complaint and provided him accommodation to stay.

“Pandey had helped me with food and accommodation. The police officer had offered me financial help, hotel and food. I am overwhelmed,” Espen said.

Pandey said he spotted a foreigner in distress near his office. Upon asking him, Lilleengen narrated his ordeal, following which the duo informed the 

Moti Nagar police Inspector Rajesh Sharma, in-charge at CIA staff-1, said they have already constituted different teams to trace the miscreants and that they will arrest them soon.
