Indian-American billionaire Jay Chaudhry, co-founder and CEO of the cybersecurity company Zscaler, attributes his success in business to a single essential trait: passion, reported ndtv.com.
According to Chaudhry, who has founded and sold multiple successful companies, passion is the key driving force behind achieving meaningful success.
The report cited a recent interview with CNBC, in which Chaudhry explained that passion transforms work into a hobby. “When you deeply care about something, your work stops feeling like a job,” he said. This intrinsic motivation pushes individuals to work harder, tackle challenges, and produce better results.
When hiring, Chaudhry focuses on candidates’ passion and curiosity, often gauging their interest by the type of questions they ask and the depth of their research. “Passion drives people to deliver more in the workplace,” he said
He believes that without passion, even the most experienced professionals can struggle to succeed. “If people don’t have passion, it doesn’t matter how much experience they have,” Chaudhry emphasized, noting that a lack of inner drive can lead to disengagement and diminished productivity.
Chaudhry’s journey to success started in 1996, when he co-founded SecureIT with his wife. The company was sold just two years later for $70 million in an all-stock deal. Following this early success, Chaudhry launched three more ventures—AirDefense, CipherTrust, and CoreHarbor—each of which he eventually sold. In 2008, he founded Zscaler, a company that has since grown into a major player in cybersecurity with a market capitalization of $25.31 billion. As of now, Forbes estimates Chaudhry’s wealth at $9.5 billion.
