President Droupadi Murmu will embark on a historic State Visit to three African nations—Algeria, Mauritania, and Malawi—from October 13 to 19, 2024. This marks the first time an Indian Head of State will visit these countries, underscoring India’s growing commitment to fostering stronger ties with Africa.
President Murmu’s visit to Algeria will take place from October 13 to 15 at the invitation of Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. She will engage in bilateral discussions with her counterpart, focusing on enhancing cooperation across key areas such as oil and gas, defense, and space technology.

The final leg of President Murmu’s visit will take her to Malawi from October 17 to 19, where she will meet with President Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera and other key officials

She will engage with trade and industry leaders and the Indian diaspora in Malawi, aiming to bolster economic and cultural ties

This visit will reaffirm India’s commitment to its friendly relations with Malawi, focusing on mutual cooperation and development
Additionally, she will address the India-Algeria Economic Forum and visit the Sidi Abdellah Science and Technology Pole University. The President will also inaugurate the India Corner at the Hamma Garden, a symbol of the deepening cultural and economic connections between the two nations.
Following her visit to Algeria, President Murmu will travel to Mauritania on October 16, a country currently holding the Presidency of the African Union. Her discussions with President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani and other high-ranking officials will explore opportunities for enhanced collaboration. President Murmu will also meet the Indian community in Mauritania, strengthening people-to-people connections and supporting the broader India-Mauritania relationship.
