Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison condemned the damaging of Mahatma Gandhi’s life-size statue by some miscreants and called the act “shameful”, news agency PTI reported.
The statue was inaugurated in Roville on Friday (November 12, 2021) in presence of Consul General of India Raj Kumar and other local leaders.
A bronze life-size statue of Mahatma Gandhi was presented by the Government of India.
The report quoted ‘Edge’ newspaper, which said the statue was inaugurated to mark India’s 75 years of Independence.
The inaugural event was part of Prime Minister Morrison’s anniversary celebrations in Roville.

The Australian Prime Minister called Australia the most successful multicultural and immigrant country in the world in which attacks on cultural monuments would not be tolerated. “Whoever is responsible for this attack has shown extreme disrespect to the Australian Indian community, they should be ashamed,” he said.
Police are investigating the matter and have called witnesses, if any, to come forward to help investigate the case. According to police, electric tools were used to damage the statue.
