Together, SITA and CCM are set to redefine the modern airport—not just as a transit point, but as a seamless, intelligent, and welcoming space that reflects the evolving expectations of travelers and the operational needs of the aviation industry
In a bold move set to transform the aviation landscape, global air transport technology leader SITA has announced the successful acquisition of CCM, an Italian design powerhouse specializing in airport interiors. This strategic integration aims to bridge the gap between cutting-edge travel technology and world-class design, creating smarter, more efficient airports tailored to modern traveler needs.
As global airports accelerate investments in automation, biometrics, AI, and self-service technologies, physical infrastructure must evolve to keep pace. The conventional layout of check-in counters, rigid security zones, and linear passenger flow is fast becoming obsolete. To address this, SITA and CCM are bringing together their respective strengths—intelligent technology and high-end interior design—to reimagine how space is utilized and experienced in the world’s airports.
“This isn’t just about expanding space—it’s about rethinking how airports work,” said David Lavorel, CEO of SITA. “By integrating CCM’s design mastery with our tech capabilities, we’re delivering future-ready terminals that prioritize fluid passenger movement, operational efficiency, and aesthetic excellence.”
Headquartered in Milan, CCM is known globally for blending premium Italian craftsmanship with functional, flexible airport interiors. Having contributed to over 300 airport projects worldwide, CCM’s expertise spans both form and function—balancing operational needs with memorable passenger experiences.
With Monica Oberti, a member of CCM’s founding Marinoni family, stepping in as interim CEO, the merger will move forward under experienced leadership. Oberti emphasized the game-changing potential of the partnership: “For too long, airports had to choose between efficiency and passenger satisfaction. Now, we’re combining both through tech-enabled, design-forward solutions.”

The acquisition comes at a pivotal moment. According to the SITA 2024 Air Transport IT Insights report, 63% of airports are focusing on self-service, biometrics, and mobile apps, with IT spending reaching $8.9 billion

However, the full value of these technologies can only be realized when integrated into thoughtfully designed physical environments. That’s where SITA and CCM’s combined vision steps in
By offering a fully integrated, end-to-end service—from conceptual design and construction to digital operations—SITA is enhancing its value proposition to airports worldwide. This “technology by design” approach ensures that infrastructure is not just upgraded but future-proofed.
Sergio Colella, SITA’s President for Europe, summed up the shift: “The industry needs a paradigm change. Through this union, we bring to the market a unique capability that harmonizes design and technology from the ground up.”
This acquisition follows a string of recent strategic expansions by SITA, including the acquisitions of Materna IPS, a leader in passenger handling, and ASISTIM, an airline operations control expert. The company has also ventured into maritime and urban air mobility sectors through its new SmartSea platform and support for Vertiports.
