SriLankan aims to be a powerful airline in this region

 Ashok Pathirage, Chairman, SriLankan Airlines recently said there was huge scope of increasing capacity between Sri Lanka and India and that SriLankan airline would be eyeing to score big on the India market in future.

Addressing the media, Pathigare said that the airline saw an opportunity to increase the number of weekly flights from 128 (pre-Covid) to 250 or more in the next three years.

Promoting the tourism of the island nation, Pathirage said it was a hidden treasure next door for Indians which takes less time than travelling to many domestic destinations.

SriLankan was fully geared for the competition that could take place with Indian airlines preparing to launch flights to Sri Lanka among other nations

Sri Lanka receives half a million Indian visitors, while there is potential to increase it by 5 million if supported by right promotions and marketing, he said. It was the same with trade and investments.

Pathirage said that the airline had restructured itself and infused fresh blood during Covid to make SriLankan a powerful carrier in the region. SriLankan was fully geared for the competition that could take place with Indian airlines preparing to launch flights to Sri Lanka among other nations.
