In a significant development, two leading Telugu organizations in the United States have joined forces to better serve the vibrant Telugu community across the nation. The American Telangana Society (ATS) has officially merged with the American Telugu Association (ATA), a momentous decision that underscores their commitment to fostering unity and solidarity among Telugu expatriates in the United States.

The merger was formalized during the board meeting of the ATA, which convened on September 9 in Atlanta, Georgia. ATA President Madhu Bommineni expressed optimism about the merger’s potential, stating, “We are confident that this merger will enable us to provide even more comprehensive support and services to the Telugu diaspora.” This consolidation of resources and efforts is poised to enhance the organizations’ ability to address the diverse needs and aspirations of Telugu individuals residing in the United States.

Narendar Chemerla, who formerly held the position of president at ATS, emphasized the merger’s strategic importance, noting that it would significantly enhance their effectiveness in achieving their shared goals. The move toward unity represents a substantial step forward in unifying the Telugu community in the United States, promoting cultural exchange, and advocating for its interests.

On the same day as the merger announcement, the ATA hosted a gala dinner to kick off the 2024 conference. During this event, the official conference logo was unveiled, attracting the participation of over 300 enthusiastic members. This conference promises to be an enriching and engaging experience, fostering connections among Telugu expatriates and promoting the cultural heritage of Telugu-speaking states.

In line with its commitment to philanthropy, the ATA has also announced plans to conduct charitable initiatives in both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana from December 10 to 30 this year, further exemplifying its dedication to giving back to the community both locally and abroad.

Moreover, the Telugu community in the United States has been significantly enriched by the presence of Radio Surabhi, the nation’s first 24/7 Telugu radio channel. This channel has rapidly gained popularity among the Telugu diaspora in Dallas, offering a diverse array of content, including parenting advice, health tips, news bulletins, and evening companionship. Established in 2018, the channel has witnessed remarkable growth, expanding its listener base from 20,000 to nearly 50,000 listeners per week.
