India is the second-largest country in the world when it comes to international students coming to the United States, making the processing of student visas a top priority for the US administration
The United States is on track to issue more than a million visas to Indians in 2023, including a record number of student visas and immigrant visas, according to senior administration officials as per US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Donald Lu. India is the second-largest country in the world when it comes to international students coming to the United States, making the processing of student visas a top priority for the US administration.
“US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has started staffing up a new virtual service centre dedicated to processing humanitarian immigration relief requests, including visas for victims of crimes and domestic violence. This development is expected to decrease wait times for people seeking or having an H-1B visa, and people can easily locate the centres online.”
Lu has stressed that the Biden administration is committed to processing all Indian student visas this summer, and that they are also prioritising work visas, including H-1B and L visas, which are highly sought-after by Indian tech workers. Lu stated that wait times at some consular sections in India for these visas are now below 60 days. The US plans to restart domestic visa renewal for certain petition-based nonimmigrant work visa categories for applicants who meet certain requirements.
Lu also announced that the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has started staffing up a new virtual service centre dedicated to processing humanitarian immigration relief requests, including visas for victims of crimes and domestic violence. This development is expected to decrease wait times for people seeking or having an H-1B visa, and people can easily locate the centres online.
