One of the reasons is the US FAA’s embargo on the Boeing 787 deliveries
Vistara with its fleet of B787-9s and A321s – meant for international operations — has been opening up routes. However, it has not been successful. One of the reasons is the US FAA’s embargo on the Boeing 787 deliveries. Vistara had been adding routes on the back of the Boeing 787-9 aircraft but, as of today, it has only two.
These planes are used for the Delhi-London-Delhi flights (5x weekly), the Delhi-Frankfurt-Delhi flights (twice weekly), the Delhi-Tokyo-Delhi (once a week), and the Delhi-Paris-Delhi (twice weekly) flights. The Mumbai-London- Mumbai flights are yet to be restarted.
“We’ve temporarily suspended service to Tokyo due to current demand pattern and the ongoing limitations on visitors into Japan, which is being gradually relaxed. Tokyo is an important route for us and we will review this as we have more resources.”

The airline could do with more 787-9s and due to the FAA embargo, none will be delivered. Vistara had to withdraw the Delhi -Tokyo flights. The flight was launched in July 2021 and it was last operated on September 29, 2021.
Vistara confirmed the suspension of the service: “We’ve temporarily suspended service to Tokyo due to current demand pattern and the ongoing limitations on visitors into Japan, which is being gradually relaxed. Tokyo is an important route for us and we will review this as we have more resources,” said a spokesperson from the airline.
