The Indian state of Kerala’s Wayanad is the first district to vaccinate all its adult population with the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.
In the district, more than 6.16 lakh people out of the targeted 6.51 lakh have got the first dose of the vaccine.
Wayanad had set a target of 1,00,000 vaccinations per day under its special mega campaign that covered all the villages. Special mobile units were pressed into service to cover the vaccination goal.
Kerala Health Minister Veena George called it an achievement by saying that all above 18, except those recently tested Covid positive, people in quarantine and some people who refused to get vaccinated have been vaccinated in the district.
On Sunday, Kerala reported 18,582 new Covid-19 cases bringing the total count to 36.69 lakh. The total number of people who have died due to Covid-19 rose to 18,601 with 102 additional deaths
“More than 6.16 lakh people out of the targeted 6.51 lakh persons have received the first dose of vaccination in the district, while over 2.13 lakh people have received the second dose, which is 31.67 per cent of the district’s population,” the minister said.
Meanwhile, on Sunday, Kerala reported 18,582 new Covid-19 cases bringing the total count to 36.69 lakh. The total number of people who have died due to Covid-19 rose to 18,601, with 102 additional deaths.
A total of 20,829 recoveries have been reported since Saturday, bringing the total recoveries to 34,92,367.
The active cases in the state rose to 1,78,630. In the last 24 hours, 1,22,970 samples got tested, and the TPR was found to be 15.11 per cent, a state government release said.
