Woman accuses CEO of a firm of groping during flight from Kolkata to Abu Dhabi

Her public statements have brought attention to the incident, stressing that such experiences can happen to anyone and raising concerns about the treatment of female employees by individuals in positions of power

A 28-year-old woman has accused Dinesh Kumar Saraogi, the CEO of Vulcan Green Steel, of groping her during a flight from Kolkata to Abu Dhabi. The woman, co-chair of the India Conference at Harvard, shared her allegations on social media and is in the process of filing a formal complaint with Kolkata police.

According to the woman, the incident occurred on July 16 when she and Saraogi were both traveling in business class. She stated that their conversation began innocently but took a disturbing turn when Saraogi allegedly showed her explicit content on his phone and proceeded to grope her. Shocked, she informed the airline staff and was relocated for the remainder of the flight.

The woman expressed her intent to pursue the matter with the Kolkata police and highlighted the need for accountability, urging Jindal to be aware of the actions of those in leadership positions within his associated companies.

Upon landing in Abu Dhabi, local police questioned Saraogi, but the woman could not file a complaint due to her connecting flight to Boston. Saraogi, who stepped down from the board of Jindal Steel and Power Ltd (JSPL) in March 2023, is currently CEO of Vulcan Green Steel, a sister company to Jindal Shadeed Iron & Steel LLC.

In response to the allegations, Naveen Jindal, chairman of Jindal Steel, stated on social media that he has initiated an investigation into the matter, emphasizing a zero-tolerance policy towards such behavior. Vulcan Green Steel has not issued a comment.
