Chennai Customs officials foil gold smuggling attempt
The Chennai Customs officials have foiled a smuggling attempt by two passengers who were travelling from Dubai to Chennai on Sunday.
The gold was hidden in kitchenware like cooker, juicer, mincer and medical equipment nebuliser
Sources at the Chennai Customs Department said, the passengers in question were arrested with 8.17kg of gold, which is valued Rs 4.03 crore in the Indian market.
They had applied all possible ways to get away from Customs check, as the gold was hidden in kitchenware like cooker, juicer, mincer and medical equipment nebuliser.
Both the passengers have been arrested, and legal action is under process, said the Customs sources.
