As Indian brands evolve beyond traditional boundaries, this global push signifies a strategic move to position them as formidable contenders in diverse markets, heralding a new era of international recognition and success
Indian apparel manufacturers are poised to make significant inroads into international markets, with a strategic focus on Australia, the US, and the UK. The Clothing Manufacturers Association of India (CMAI) is spearheading this global expansion, capitalizing on the success and strength of domestic brands within the country.
Rahul Mehta, Chief Mentor of CMAI, emphasized the growing prowess of Indian brands, transcending beyond ethnic wear to encompass a diverse array of alternatives that rival Western wear brands. Following the success of the inaugural ‘Brands of India’ exhibition in Dubai, which featured 350 domestic brands, there is a keen interest in further global outreach.
Mehta outlined the plan for a series of exhibitions, starting with Dubai and subsequently targeting key markets such as Australia, the US, New Zealand, and the UK. The decision to initiate this international exposure is fueled by the substantial presence of the Indian diaspora in these regions.
The choice of Dubai as the launchpad for global exhibitions was described as “obvious” by Mehta. Being the second-largest export market for Indian goods, Dubai serves as an established platform for showcasing and promoting Indian products. The CMAI collaborated with prominent entities such as The Dubai Textile Merchants Association, TEXMAS, Dubai International Chamber, and Readymade Garments Merchants Group Dubai for the November-end exhibition.
