The next time you are “home” from abroad and exasperated with the traffic on the road, you could take a lift in Asia’s first Made-in-India flying car. Name Vinata, it is the brainchild of Yogesh Ramanathan, a Chennai-based entrepreneur.
Vinata Aeromobility, that is the Ramanathan-led company, will unveil its autonomous hybrid flying car to the world on October 5, at one of the most popular aviation exhibitions — Excel, in London. “Disrupting the Aviation & Aerospace Industries, Vinata has developed a fully autonomous flying car. We have expertise in the following areas that have influenced our one-of-a-kind vehicle: vertical take off and landing (VTOL), quad-copters, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs or “drones”), automotive design, future mobility, hybrid systems, aerospace, aviation, urban air mobility, transportation, and logistics,” says the company website.
The company has leading space scientists from ISRO with Dr A.E. Muthunayagam as their principal advisor.

The flying vehicle will be capable of vertical take-off and landing using its coaxial quad-rotor. It weighs a total of 1,100 kilograms and can handle a takeoff weight of 1,300 kilograms.
Urban Air Mobility (UAM) is expected to be a reality in the USA and Europe soon. Moreover, Boeing and Airbus have joined hands to make flying taxis a reality in Japan. Lockheed Martin and Uber are also gearing up for major strides in this direction

Unveiling the concept for the vehicle, Civil Aviation Minister, Jyotiraditya Scindia said in a statement, “Delighted to have been introduced to the concept model of the soon-to-become Asia’s First Hybrid flying car by the young team of Vinata AeroMobility. Once this takes off, flying cars would be used for transporting people & cargo, as well as for providing medical emergency services.”
Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia was shown the concept model of the flying car and he tweeted:
