During the holiday season, there is a notable surge in Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) seeking specialized medical treatments in India, particularly in dental, dermatology, orthopedics, and hair care, as reported by IANS. The country has become a preferred destination for NRIs from the US, UK, Australia, Canada, Germany, and New Zealand due to its combination of cost-effectiveness, familiarity with treatment patterns, and accessibility.

Approximately 18% of NRIs choose to travel to India during the Christmas, New Year, and Sankranthi season for various health concerns such as dental issues, weight management, and vitamin deficiencies. The appeal lies in the seasonal transition and the attraction of quality healthcare at affordable prices, making medical tourism in India a hotspot for both preventive and corrective treatments.

The report quoted Dr Venkatesh Movva, Managing Director of RegenOrthoSport, who noted a surge in international patients, especially during the holiday season. The center’s dedication to providing comprehensive, non-surgical solutions for musculoskeletal issues, coupled with a unique outpatient procedure for quicker recovery, contributes to its popularity among NRIs.

Many NRIs also express confidence in the Indian healthcare system by purchasing health policies and opting for customized products from banks

Similarly, Dr Hemant Kaukuntla, Managing Director of Century Hospital, emphasizes the reasons behind NRIs choosing India for medical needs during the holiday season. Challenges in healthcare systems outside India, such as long waiting periods and prohibitive costs in foreign countries, drive NRIs toward India’s renowned healthcare facilities, offering quick access to treatments, cost-effectiveness, and familiar treatment patterns.

Dr. Praveen Kumar Kulkarni, Senior Consultant at KIMS Hospital, mentions that beyond affordability, NRIs seek healthcare in India due to the accessibility of certain treatments not readily available abroad and the comfort of receiving treatments from known experts in their home country.

The holiday season witnesses a surge in medical appointments by NRIs, attributed to temperature shifts in non-tropical countries causing dietary problems, vitamin deficiencies, and hair-related issues. Key treatments sought by NRIs include dental implants, root canal treatments, tooth cleaning, and ayurvedic therapies, available in affordable family packages and individual care packages. Many NRIs also express confidence in the Indian healthcare system by purchasing health policies and opting for customized products from banks.
