Indian American lawmakers have emphasized the importance of addressing human rights concerns in India through constructive dialogue rather than through public admonitions. Recognizing the complex historical context of India’s colonial past, these lawmakers believe that understanding and cooperation will yield better results than lecturing, M9 reported.

Congressman Ro Khanna, who co-chairs the Congressional India Caucus, highlighted the significance of India’s long history of colonization. He pointed out that approaching India with a lecturing tone is counterproductive, given the country’s centuries of colonial experience. Khanna stressed that acknowledging the imperfections in both American and Indian democracies and collaborating to enhance democratic values and human rights would be a more effective strategy.

These perspectives reflect a nuanced approach to international relations, where historical context and mutual respect play crucial roles in fostering meaningful and productive engagements between countries

Shri Thanedar, another prominent Indian American lawmaker, expressed his strong support for a robust India-US relationship. He underscored India’s economic power and its potential role in countering China’s influence, advocating for the United States to recognize and build on India’s strengths. Thanedar emphasized the need for a solid and positive partnership between the two nations, focusing on mutual respect and understanding.
