The proposed Human Trafficking (Prevention, Care and Rehabilitation) Bill 2021 aims at making a tool for sustainable and effective checking of human trafficking.
The Indian Government’s Ministry of Women and Child Development has called upon the stakeholders to give feedback on the proposed Human Trafficking (Prevention, Care and Rehabilitation) Bill 2021 to make it sustainable and effective in checking human trafficking in a better way.
A statement from the ministry said, “Under this, care, protection and rehabilitation will be provided to the victims.”
The Bill will also ensure workers’ and an environment for their legal, economic and social aspects will be created.
“A person found guilty of trafficking will be punished with imprisonment of not less than seven years, which can be extended to 10 years. A fine of not less than one lakh rupees and a maximum of five lakh rupees can be imposed on the guilty.”
“It will also be ensured that those who commit crimes against them are prosecuted. This would apply to every offense of smuggling of persons, including cross-border smuggling.” The statement said.
The Bill reiterates, “A person found guilty of trafficking will be punished with imprisonment of not less than seven years, which can be extended to 10 years. A fine of not less than one lakh rupees and a maximum of five lakh rupees can be imposed on the guilty.”
Some State governments also have shown pro-active approach against human trafficking and have taken action in this regard.
Some days ago Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren took serious note of it and called for removing the state’s stigma of human trafficking.
Uttar Pradesh also took note of some workers who went to some Gulf countries and found to be mistreated and denied the perks and facilities assured to them at the time of appointment.
Some middle-men were arrested in the state as well.
