Apple has sharply increased its iPhone production in India, with manufacturing reaching a record $22 billion for the fiscal year ending March 2025 — marking a 60% jump from the previous year, Bloomberg has reported. The tech giant’s growing presence in India means that one in every five iPhones sold worldwide is now “Made in India,” underscoring a strategic shift away from China amid ongoing trade uncertainties and pandemic disruptions, reported timesofindia.indiatimes.com.

Of the total output, roughly $17.4 billion worth of iPhones were exported, a milestone confirmed by India’s technology minister earlier this April. The increase comes as Apple expands its reliance on Indian assembly plants, particularly Foxconn’s southern India factory, along with Tata Group’s electronics division, which has emerged as a major player after acquiring Wistron Corp. and overseeing Pegatron Corp.’s operations.

Apple’s India-made iPhone production hits $22 billion, fueling exports and reshaping global supply chains amid U.S.-China trade tensions.

The manufacturing expansion in India accelerated after U.S. President Donald Trump announced reciprocal tariff plans in February, prompting Apple to scale shipments from India to the U.S. While the administration later granted temporary tariff exemptions for electronics — including smartphones — a separate 20% duty on Chinese goods remains, incentivizing Apple to further reduce its dependence on China.

Despite this push, analysts warn that fully shifting Apple’s production away from China will take years. Bloomberg Intelligence estimates suggest it could take up to eight years just to shift 10% of its capacity out of China.

India now manufactures Apple’s full iPhone lineup, including its flagship titanium Pro models, backed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government incentives to transform India into a global manufacturing hub. Modi’s administration has also pledged an additional $2.7 billion to boost electronics component production, further solidifying India’s role in Apple’s global supply chain.

Apple, which currently holds an 8% share in India’s smartphone market, also saw its sales climb to nearly $8 billion in fiscal 2024, signaling strong local demand alongside its global export success.
