It has come to light that some of these individuals are exploiting the letterheads of political parties to substantiate their claims of persecution within India
Numerous individuals hailing from Punjab have been making claims of political persecution in India as they seek political asylum in various foreign countries such as the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Australia, and Germany.
According to police sources as reported by indiatoday.in, this group consists of a mix of individuals including gang members from Punjab, Khalistan terrorists, and those in pursuit of job opportunities abroad.
It has come to light that some of these individuals are exploiting the letterheads of political parties to substantiate their claims of persecution within India. Allegations suggest that certain politicians might be profiting substantially by providing these letters.
A high-ranking official from the Punjab Police revealed to India Today that over the past decade, a total of 4,280 asylum claims on the grounds of political persecution were turned down. Investigative focus has been directed towards more than 1,000 cases from the last five years where individuals from Punjab have sought political asylum in various foreign nations. Of these cases, 107 were recorded in the current year, 283 in 2022, 238 in 2021, 178 in 2020, and 203 in 2019.
Insider reports further indicate that illegal immigrants often dispose of their official documents, including passports, prior to claiming peril to their lives in India. Many of them resort to marrying citizens of their chosen host country in order to secure citizenship
Many of these illegal immigrants take the ‘donkey route’ to reach countries like the US, the UK, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, and Germany. This term alludes to the route utilized by human traffickers, involving multiple stops and locations to clandestinely transport illegal immigrants into Western countries. Significantly, these immigrants have been found to manipulate the letterheads of relatively obscure political parties to substantiate their asylum claims.
A recent instance involved the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), which brought to light the misuse of its official letterheads to seek political asylum. Interestingly, a party representative admitted that the party had indeed issued two such letters in the past to aid individuals in obtaining asylum.
While political leaders vehemently deny issuing such letters, insider sources suggest that certain politicians are receiving substantial payments in exchange for these letters, asserting that the applicants face life-threatening situations.
Insider reports further indicate that illegal immigrants often dispose of their official documents, including passports, prior to claiming peril to their lives in India. Many of them resort to marrying citizens of their chosen host country in order to secure citizenship.
Additionally, it has been discovered that more than two dozen Khalistani terrorists, who were subjects of investigation by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and other Indian law enforcement agencies for their involvement in acts of terror and criminal activities, are also attempting to secure political asylum in countries such as Canada, the US, and the UK.
