Now NRIs will not have to travel to Chandigarh to get their documents verified. It can be done at the service centers set up across the state
The Punjab Government is streamlining the documentation system for Non-Resident-Indians (NRIs). Under the service, the NRIs will not have to travel to Chandigarh to get their documents verified. It can be done at the service centers set up across the state.
Under the new system, the NRIs can avail of this service by paying fees of Rs 500.
Earlier, it was a cumbersome process under which certain documentation was done only in Chandigarh, for which people had to travel to the city.
The government has now started the system of checking the documents at the nearest service centres located near an individual’s house. After paying the documentation fee, a slip is generated, and the papers are ready in due time.
“Once an NRI submits his documents to the service centre, it will be the responsibility of the service centre to get them verified. The information about the submission of documents by the applicant will be received through a message on his mobile number,” said a service centre manager.

After the document is ready, the applicant will get an SMS, after which he can go and collect the document. The Punjab Government is already providing 332 facilities, including Aadhar Card, birth and death certificates, caste certificates, and residence documents through the service centres.
