Indian Americans are economically stable, 79pc are graduates

People of Indian descent in the United States are doing fairly well in terms of education and other lifestyle parameters. The number of Indians in the US is about 4 million. Among them 1.6 million are visa holders, 1.4 million naturalised residents and a million are US-born residents, a New York Times analysis report said.

The national average of graduates in the US is 34 per cent, while 79 per cent Indian American are graduates. Indians are also at the forefront of other Asian groups living in the US in terms of family income.

The median income of Indian households in the US is $123,700 annually, while the national average of the country is $63,922. Compared to other Asian groups in the US, the Indians are ahead. The Taiwanese fetch an average of $97,129 annually while the Filipinos $95,000.

 

Indians are also at the forefront of other Asian groups living in the US in terms of family income

 

Only 14 per cent of Indians reported an average household income below $40,000, compared to 33 per cent nationally.

“People of Indian descent hold a significant share of jobs in several high-paying fields, including computer science, financial management and medicine. Nine per cent of doctors in the United States are of Indian descent, and more than half of them are immigrants,” the report said.
