Finally 70 per cent of the New South Wales state population is fully vaccinated, those aged 16 and older and more than 90 per cent have received at least one dose. In fact, for the first time in more than 100 days after Australia’s largest city achieved a vaccination benchmark hairdressers, gyms, cafés and bars have been reopened.

So now that Sydney is planning to reopen there is jubilation and celebration all around. So much so that some businesses had to open even at midnight as people were adamant they wished to enjoy their much awaited freedom at long last. Once the 80 per cent benchmark is touched, New South Wales residents are looking forward to travelling overseas, yet again enjoying the freedom and experience stalled since March last year.

Meanwhile it is feared that the infection rate is all set to rise as Sydney residents venture out and become more mobile, though cases are far lower than expected. Sydney’s lockdown began on June 26 with the outbreak of the delta variant spread.

The Australian Capital Territory, which includes Canberra and two villages, and New South Wales are the only parts of the country to achieve the 70 per cent benchmark.
