Masoom Khan, the manager of an Indian restaurant in Herefordshire, UK, has been banned from serving as a company director for five years after employing two illegal workers from Bangladesh. Khan, a 35-year-old British national of South Asian heritage, managed Jalalabad Akbari Cuisine, a restaurant located on Etnam Street in Leominster, economictimes.indiatimes.com reported.

The UK Immigration Enforcement officials raided the restaurant in 2021 after receiving suspicions of illegal employment. During the raid, they found two Bangladeshi men in their 30s working at the restaurant without the legal right to work in the UK.

“The case demonstrates the effectiveness of collaborative efforts between government agencies to enforce employment laws and combat illegal working practices.”

One of the workers had been employed for two months, while the other had been with the restaurant since before the COVID-19 pandemic.

As a result of this investigation, Khan’s company was fined £20,000. The business subsequently went into liquidation due to its financial liabilities. Following the investigation, UK Secretary of State for Business and Trade, Jonathan Reynolds, accepted a disqualification undertaking from Khan, barring him from company directorship for five years starting from Tuesday.
