Indian-American Senator Usha Reddi, representing the 22nd district of Kansas, has officially thrown her hat into the ring for re-election, as reported by PTI. A member of the Democratic party, Reddi assumed office after Senator Tom Hawk’s departure earlier this year, and she recently made her candidacy announcement on the social media platform X.
In a statement shared on X, Reddi expressed her commitment to public service, stating, “Just filed as a candidate for the Kansas State Senate in the 2024 election! Public service is a significant part of my life, and I am dedicated to continuing to work for the people as your State Senator!”
With her current term set to conclude by January 2025, Reddi has outlined a comprehensive agenda for her campaign. Her primary focus areas include healthcare, mental health, public education, safety, equity, jobs, security, economic growth, infrastructure, housing, and childcare, as detailed on her campaign website.
Reddi’s family immigrated from Andhra Pradesh in 1973 and settled in Columbus, Ohio
Reddi emphasized her collaborative approach, stating, “I will continue to work with legislators, experts on issues, and community members to develop and support policies that will assist and empower individuals, families, businesses, and nonprofits.”
A seasoned public school teacher, Reddi’s political career includes a decade-long tenure on the Manhattan City Commission in Kansas. She served as Mayor in 2016-2017 and 2020, collaborating closely with local entities such as Kansas State University, Fort Riley, and the Manhattan Area Chamber of Commerce to foster economic vitality and residents’ well-being.
