VISAKHAPATNAM: Police in Vizag city arrested 52-year-old Pilla Sridhar, an NRI residing in Carrolton, Texas, in connection with the suicide of 48-year-old K Roja, a fellow NRI, reported timesofindia.indiatimes.com.

Sridhar Allegedly Abetted Suicide of NRI Woman in Hotel

The investigation revealed that Roja, a software professional in the US, was found dead under suspicious circumstances in a hotel bathroom under the jurisdiction of the Three-Town police station in Vizag. The incident occurred on March 6, but it only came to light on March 8.

Both Sridhar and Roja originally hailed from Vizag, and it was found that Sridhar, a freelancer in medicine teaching in the US, had traveled to Vizag on February 18.

Sridhar’s Role in the Tragic Incident

The investigation revealed that Sridhar and Roja had known each other for several years, and after he insisted, Roja agreed to meet him during her visit to Vizag in February 2025.

On March 6, Sridhar reportedly forced her to meet at the hotel, where she tragically died by suicide in the hotel washroom

Charges and Police Investigation

Initially, the police registered the case under Section 194 for suspicious death due to hanging.

However, after further investigation, the case was altered to include Sections 108 (abetment to suicide), 77, 78 (2) (disseminating private images of a woman without her consent, stalking), and Section 67-A of the IT Act (punishment for publishing or transmitting sexually explicit material electronically).

Sridhar was presented in court, where the police requested that he be sent for remand as the investigation continues.
